Determined to pay off the family debt and raise her boys after her husband abandons her, a righteous woman named Radha (Nargis) works her fingers to the bone on what's left of their farm. She braves many hurdles and refuses to compromise on her morals and dignity. One of her sons, embittered by the plight of his mother and the endless torment at the hands of their moneylender, grows up full of anger. As he goes on a spree seeking revenge, Radha takes a drastic step to put an end to this cycle of violence. But she has to choose between the moral values she has upheld all her life, and the love for her son.
