Aap Beati' revolves around the trials and tribulations of a lower middle-class family. Kishorilal Kapoor (Ashok Kumar) and his daughter Geeta (Hema Malini) toil hard to send Geeta's brother abroad for higher education. When he returns, he marries a high-maintainence woman who separates him from the family, leaving Geeta and Kishorilal to pay off the education loan. Meanwhile, Geeta falls in love with Ranjit (Shashi Kapoor), the son of rich Seth Mayadas (Madan Puri), who staunchly opposes the match.
